Stress Responses, Our Brain, and Seeing Through Trauma-Glasses
In this module, we take a closer look at how the brain responds to stress and trauma. You will learn: - *How stress responses (fight, flight, freeze) are triggered* and what this looks like in the classroom or during therapy. - The science behind brain development and how trauma affects a child’s ability to regulate emotions, concentrate, and learn. - How to view behavior through ‘trauma-glasses’, understanding that challenging behavior is often a response to past experiences. - The window of tolerance — how to recognize when a child is within or outside this window, and how to bring them back into a state where they are ready to learn. This module will give you practical strategies to recognize stress responses and support students in managing their emotions and behavior.

Relationships, (Self-)Regulation, Trust, and Safety
At the heart of trauma-sensitive support are relationships. In this module, we explore how to build strong, trusting relationships with children, helping them to feel safe and secure in their learning environment. You will learn: - How early attachment experiences shape relationships and behavior later in life. - Practical techniques to build and maintain trust with students who have experienced trauma. - *Co-regulation strategies* to help children who struggle to regulate their own emotions. - How to create a safe and predictable environment that fosters learning and emotional well-being. - The importance of routines, structure, and clear communication in helping children feel secure. You’ll come away from this module with actionable ideas to create nurturing relationships that promote trust and safety in your classroom or professional setting.

Collaboration and Self-Care in a Trauma-Sensitive Environment
Supporting children who have experienced trauma requires collaboration and care for yourself as well. In this final module, we focus on the importance of teamwork and maintaining your well-being. You will learn: - How to collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents, and other professionals to provide comprehensive support for traumatized children. - How to create a trauma-sensitive team culture, where everyone works together to create a safe, supportive environment. - The vital role of self-care — why taking care of your own emotional well-being is essential when working with trauma. - Simple yet effective self-care practices to prevent burnout and compassion fatigue. This module ensures that, while you are caring for others, you also prioritize your own mental health and well-being.
